AUTHOR INSTRUCTIONS

Manuscripts must be submitted through the Journal’s electronic submission system. The Journal of Experimental and Integrative Medicine (JEIM) ensures an objective, timely, and unbiased peer-review process. In the case of acceptance, manuscripts proceed to proof correction followed by “Online First” (ahead-of-print) publication.

The journal’s article acceptance rate was 41.27% for submissions received from July 2015 to June 2016.

Types of Papers

JEIM accepts the following manuscript categories:

  • Original Articles: Full-length experimental or clinical research papers presenting novel and significant contributions to biomedical literature.

  • Brief Reports (Short Communications): Short reports of high scientific interest, not exceeding 4 printed pages (approximately 1500 words).

  • Review Articles: Mini-reviews, literature reviews, and meta-analyses prepared by experienced authors are welcome (both solicited and unsolicited).

  • Hypotheses: Articles presenting original, untested hypotheses supported by previously published findings rather than new experimental evidence.

  • Editorials: Invited comments that analyze and highlight the importance of an article published in the same issue.

  • Commentary Letters (Letters to the Editor): Scientific responses to articles published in previous issues of JEIM, encouraging academic discussion among qualified scholars.

Language

The official language of the journal is English (American style). Authors must ensure that the manuscript is written in fluent, grammatically correct English at a native-quality level prior to submission.

Ethical Standards

Manuscripts reporting studies involving humans or animals must include a statement confirming that:

  • The study was approved by an appropriate ethics committee, and

  • The research was performed in accordance with ethical standards, including the Declaration of Helsinki (1964) and subsequent amendments.

It must also be clearly stated that informed consent was obtained from all participants prior to inclusion in the study. Any information that may disclose the identity of study participants must be omitted.

Submission of a manuscript implies that:

  • The work has not been published previously,

  • The manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere, and

  • The submission has been approved by all co-authors and the responsible authorities of the institution where the work was conducted.

To declare these matters, the publisher’s Author Agreement Form must be downloaded, completed, and originally signed by each author, and uploaded together with the manuscript. The publisher will not be held legally responsible in the event of claims for compensation.

To avoid conflicts, authors must provide separate, valid e-mail addresses for all authors at submission. These will be validated before the peer-review process begins.

DOWNLOAD AUTHOR AGREEMENT FORM

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text excerpts that have been previously published must obtain written permission from the respective copyright holder(s) and provide evidence of such permission at submission. Any material received without evidence will be presumed to be original work of the authors.

The editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with these requirements. Authors will be held responsible for false statements or failure to meet journal policies.

Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose whether they have any financial or personal relationships that could influence the work. A Conflict of Interest statement must be provided in a separate section before the reference list.

If no conflict exists, authors should state:
“The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.”

Manuscript Submission and Preparation

All manuscripts must be submitted online. Electronic submission substantially reduces the time required for editorial evaluation and peer review.

Title Page

The title page must include:

  • Concise and informative article title

  • A short running title (running head)

  • Full names and affiliations of all authors

  • Full postal address, e-mail address, telephone and fax number of the corresponding author(s)

Abstract

The abstract must appear immediately after the title page.

For research articles, the abstract must be structured using the following headings:

  • Objective

  • Methods

  • Results

  • Conclusions

For review articles, the abstract should be written in 2–4 paragraphs (without subheadings) including: background viewpoint, discussion of the main theme, and final considerations.

The abstract must not contain undefined abbreviations or unspecified references and must not exceed 300 words.

Keywords

Provide 3–6 keywords for indexing purposes. Keywords may appear on the title page or under the abstract.

Text Formatting

  • Manuscripts must be submitted in MS Word format.

  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced text.

  • Use 2.5 cm margins on A4 paper (or 1 inch margins on Letter size).

  • Enable automatic page numbering (do not use field functions).

  • Use tab stops or formatting commands for indents (do not use the space bar).

  • Use the table function to create tables (do not use spreadsheets).

Abbreviations must be defined at first use and used consistently throughout. If excessive abbreviations are used, authors should also provide a complete list.

Use generic drug and chemical names whenever possible. If trade names are used, the generic name must be given at first mention. Chemical naming should follow CAS or IUPAC conventions whenever applicable.

Manuscripts must be structured as:

  • Introduction

  • (Materials and) Methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • Acknowledgments (if applicable)

  • References

A combined “Results and Discussion” section should be avoided. Each section should begin on a new page. The Discussion should end with one or more concluding paragraphs without a separate heading.

Acknowledgments for individuals, grants, and funding must be included in a separate section before the references. Funding organization names must be written in full.

Reference Citing and Style

References must be cited using Arabic numerals in square brackets, in the order they appear in the manuscript (e.g., [1], [2], [3]).

The reference list must include only works that are cited in the text and that are published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should be cited only in the text.

All authors must be listed in the reference list (do not use “et al.”). References in non-English languages should be avoided where possible.
